Tabigue discussed the FPA\u2019s mandates and its strategic thrusts and functions. \u201cFPA being a technical regulatory Agency, is mandated to assure the public with adequate supplies of fertilizers and pesticides at reasonable prices. We also aim to educate the people on how to use these agricultural inputs properly,\u201d PO Tabigue said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">PO Jennie M. Basilio lectured on the importance of the safe handling of pesticides. She emphasized that pesticides are formulated to be toxic, and they can be dangerous if misused and mishandled. She also highlighted the following:<\/span><\/p><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\">\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-left: 50px; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><li style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">All pesticides intended for commercial use in the Philippines shall be registered with FPA.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Pesticide management focuses on maximizing the benefits of the chemical while minimizing its harmful effects.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Importance of properly wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs)\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI), Maximum Residue Limits (MRL), and hazards of chemical residues to the human body.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"box-sizing: inherit;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Triple rinsing and proper disposal of empty pesticide containers.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Mr. Allen Jay Ponce of Bayer CropScience Philippines also presented the product stewardship program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 0rem; margin-left: 12px; font-size: 11px; clear: left; color: #0a0a0a; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fefefe;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: inherit; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In addition, PO Joey B. Pascua explained the current fertilizer price situation and the reasons behind the increasing prices of fertilizers and emphasized that the Covid-19 and gas shortage significantly impacted the price trend.
